Cleopatra, daughter of Auletes, Ptolemy XII of ancient Egypt, was born in 69 B.C. Of Greek heritage, she was highly educated and conversant in numerous languages, and shrewdly used her intelligence and guiles to succeed to the throne over her brothers Ptolemy XIII and Ptolemy XIV. Her notorious affair with Julius Caesar, both in Egypt and Rome, led to the birth to her son, Caesarion. However, after Caesar was assassinated, Cleopatra returned to Egypt where she became romantically and politically involved with Marc Antony. When Caesar prevailed over Antony, Cleopatra took her own life. She has however since gained considerable claim in art, literature and film.

IMAX Mysteries of Egypt

The first IMAX® film produced in collaboration with National Geographic, Mysteries of Egypt reveals the stories and splendors of an ancient empire through the eyes of a grandfather (Omar Sharif) who enchants his granddaughter  with tales of Egypt's past. As the pair explore the visual wonders of the land, the grandfather's vivid evocations of distant history are complemented by stunning panoramic views of the landscapes and monuments still visible in Egypt today.

Swept along on the journey, viewers go back in time -when preparing royal remains for burial required 70 days of embalming, anointing, and wrapping, and when an obsessed archaeologist first peered into a young king's tomb brimming with golden treasures-and travel across a magnificent country, where great pyramids loom over Giza, deathly quiet presides in the Valley of the Kings, and the Nile flows hundreds of miles toward a Mediterranean delta.

After Reading "Antony And Cleopatra"
by Robert Louis Stevenson

As when the hunt by holt and field
Drives on with horn and strife,
Hunger of hopeless things pursues
Our spirits throughout life.

The sea's roar fills us aching full
Of objectless desire -
The sea's roar, and the white moon-shine,
And the reddening of the fire.

Who talks to me of reason now?
It would be more delight
To have died in Cleopatra's arms
Than be alive tonight.
