About U.S. Nationals

Once a year the U.S. Figure Skating Organization holds its annual Nationals competitions - the U.S. State Farm Figure Skating Championships. Usually, Nationals occurs in January, as the results of the figure skating competition influence who will go to World Championships in March, and every four years, the Winter Olympics.

From January 21-28, 2007, Nationals will be held in Spokane, Washington. As of November 2006, Nationals 2007 figure skating tickets are still available. Sasha Cohen, ice dancers Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto, as well as Kimmie Meissner and Emily Hughes are among those expected to be competing at the 2007 State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

In 2008, the U.S. Nationals competition will be held January 21-28 in St. Paul, Minnesota. To get the best seats, you are advised to purchase your 2008 tickets a year ahead of time.

I have only been able to attend figure skating shows and competitions in New England, and was fortune to be able to attend when the annual competition was in Boston in 2001.

About My Ice Skating Photography

I had all-event tickets to U.S. Nationals Figure Skating competition, but seating varied. When my seats were within 12 rows of the ice, I used my 100-210/2.8 aperture zoom lens. When I was further away (in the balcony for pairs short program), I used my 90-300/4.8 - 5.6 zoom lens. Exhibition lighting in a dark arena with spotlights required 1600 film pushed one stop. Photos scanned here may also appear more yellow here than the original prints. I used a Minolta 7000i camera (replaced in 2002 with a Minolta 7, and then Konica Minolta A200 digital camera), with Fuji 800 film.
