About Totmianina and Marinin
Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin are the Russian gold medal pairs champions of the 2006 Winter Olympics, as well as 2006 Europeans and the 2005-2006 Grand Prix series, and current Champions on Ice skaters. Tatiana was born February 11, 1981 in Perm, Russia, Maxim, on March 23, 1977 in Volgograd, Russia. They have been skating together since 1996, after initially training as single figure skaters.
Maxim, who started skating at age four, quit singles skating and switched to pairs after being severely beaten by Evgeny Plushenko in competition.
Totmianina and Marinin were initially trained as pairs skaters by Natalia Pavlova. In 2001, they moved from Russia to the U.S. (near Chicago) to train with
Olympic pairs champion skater and coach Oleg Vasiliev. Under Vasiliev, they not only improved their technique, but also their artistry and expressiveness on the ice. In less then ten years of skating together, Totmianina and Marinin won 23 gold medals, as well as silver and bronze, culminating with a gold medal at the 2006 Olympics
in Turino, Italy.
