About Totmianina and Marinin
Continued from Totmianina and Marininin figure skating photo page 1
Russian Olympic gold medalists Totmianina and Marinin received considerable international attention not only because of their finessse as figure skaters, but also because of a serious accident at Skate America in November 2004, in which Tatiana fell during a lift, had a serious concussion and was hospitalized. Tatiana had no memory of the accident, but Maxim became nearly paralyzed with fear in regard to skating, and sought help with a sports psychologist so both could return to active competition. Soon afterwards, they won Worlds in spring 2005, followed by the Grand Prix series in the fall and the winter Olympics in early 2006.
Their most recent figure skating programs were Snowstorm (Sviridov) and Romeo and Juliet (Marton) and Melodrama (Bocelli) in 2005-2006. In 2004-2005, they skated to Ave Maria, and Scheherazade (Rimski-Korsakov).
Since the Olympics, Totmianina and Marinin have retired from competitive figure skating, but continue to skate professionally, and tour in the Champions on Ice show. Their intention in fall 2006 is to to continue to skate, while becoming assistant coaches near Chicago to their own coach, Oleg Vasiliev.
