Matthews and Zavozin
Matthews and Zavozin won the U.S. Nationals Junior figure skating championships in ice dance in both 2003 and 2004, won the Junior Grand Prix in 2004, and became World Junior Champions in 2005. Competing on the senior level since 2005, they placed fourth at U.S. Nationals in 2006 (Morgan fell during the free dance), then won the silver medal at both the Nebelhorn Trophy and Four Continents in fall 2006.
This young and talented ice dance team is impressing the figure skating community with their near-perfect lifts, twizzles and step sequences. Their technical skill, orginality, dynamic energy and training is quickly enabling them to rise up the senior ranks.
Matthews and Zavozin represent the Skating Club of New York, and are coached by Elena Garanina. Recent programs include
original dances Cha Cha/"Carapiecho" and most recently, Autumn in Buenos Aires. Recent free dances include Lord of the Dance, "El Tango de Roxanne" from Moulin Rouge, the "Piano", and in 2006-2007, a classical music montage.
In addition to competing, they also perform in such ice skating shows as Evening with Champions, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
